My Shea Butter and Me (by CDMarvelous09)
Finally did another video! Yay!
Merry 3 days until Christmas! My finals are over, the grades are good, and I dyed my bang. Pretty good break so far :)
When people ask me why I cut my hair and went natural, I usually say something trite like, “I got tired of it.” Which is true, but obviously there’s more to the story. So here’s an analogy I created to help ppl get “it”.
Imagine you have this suit. It’s Armani. And it’s your favoooorite suit. You get compliments on it all the time, especially when it’s fresh out of the cleaners, and you pair it with a new shirt, banging shoes. But after, let’s say, ten YEARS of wearing the same suit daily (okay you may fancy-it-up or dress-it-down some days, but it’s still the same fucking suit) you’re just tired of your once favorite ensemble. Plus, it’s summer, and it’s way too hot to be wearing a suit everyday! So you decide to ditch the suit and just put on some clothes you have at the house. Now-a-days, you may not have everyone talking about that tall glass of water in the Armani suit, but you still get the appreciative glance or comment every now and again. And what’s weird is that these affirmations are somehow better than the ones before (go figure!) because in the back of your head you’re like, “This old thing? I just put some stuff together. I’m glad you like it…” Reason being that in the past you’d go to a tailor. She told you to buy the suit, and everyone would love it. You bought it. They loved it. But this new-new? This shit right here?! Changed everything. Case in point, just as you’re about to leave the house, your cousin says, “You’re a fool if you walk out this house without your Armani suit on”. Meanwhile, your mom co-signs, “That’s right, baby, you’ll NEVER get a job without your Armani suit on.” Big brother laughs, “Job? Hell, she’ll never catch a man without that Armani.” O_o Damn. You didn’t know it was that deep. They must’ve really liked that suit. But you leave anyway. And on the way to the train station, two people ask you where they can buy your outfit. (And you tell them of course that they can’t, but they can look in their own closets and probably find something similar…kinda.) And after weighing the pros and cons, you realize how less of a burden it is not having to wear a suit everyday. No more incessant trips to the dry cleaners. (You get to wash your own clothes.) Fewer expenses. (You may buy the more expensive brand of washing powder but that’s about as extravagant as it gets.) Oh and get this. If you wanted to…if you really wanted to, you could always put on that Armani for a day (or a week) and then slip right back into your normal clothes. But naaah, you’ll pass. ;-)
^^^THIS. ALL OVER THIS!!!
Man I remember when there was a time when I always said I would NEVER cut my hair no matter what. I barely liked getting my ends snipped lol. My long hair was a trademark I had carried with me my entire life.
Now my hair hits the back of my neck, and I can’t remember what it’s like when the curl is stretched (I think it’s just hitting my back I don’t really do length checks). Long hair is no longer my trademark, but hair accessories and being bold enough to do what I did is.
I don’t really think what I did is bold; I just think of it as a welcomed change.
*In Rihanna’s voice* I found love in a red silk scarf :)
Thanks! I was thinking of using shea butter since I use it for everything on my hair anyway.
